History of Hawaii Pineapple
Many people does not know that pineapple is not a native fruit of Hawaii. No records may also tell who brought it and when did this fruit arrived in Hawaii. This may also be the reason why it was called “halakahiki” or foreign fruit in the native Hawaiian language.
During the reign of King Kamehameha in the 1800’s, one of his advisor, Francisco de Paula Marin, has been successful in planting pineapples. Yet, it was Captain John Kidwell who was known to be the first to develop the pineapple industry in Hawaii while James Drummond Dole turned pineapple as a primary fruit for the Americans.
